The Orchestra Project is a joint project between the Richmond Symphony and Virginia Commonwealth University Music Department.  Within the Orchestra Project, we feature two tracks for students: String Intensive and String Odyssey.  Our faculty is composed of VCU music professors and full-time musicians of the Richmond Symphony. Our faculty boasts some of the most marvelous players and educators in Virginia.  Young musicians thrive when they are surrounded by dedicated and inspiring faculty.  Check out our faculty bios to get a better sense of who we are.

Designed for advanced string players currently in grades 8 through 12, String Intensive provides a week of workshops that encourage students to dig deep into chamber and string orchestra music.  Chamber music faculty not only coach their ensembles, they play WITH them. Planned recreation and socializing opportunities round out an unforgettable week.

This program welcomes students who have been playing their instruments for a minimum of two years and are ready to advance their skills by working with professional musicians. A good mix of music and summertime fun is the hallmark of String Odyssey.
